The Audi Q3 Sportback is the coupe avatar of the Q3 SUV, and is the first of its kind in the entry-level luxury SUV segment. The Sportback might have a sportier exterior but underneath, it is still a Q3 with the same mechanicals and the interior of the standard SUV.

The Q3 Sportback, like other coupe SUVs uses its design to make an impression. Audi has cleverly kept the sportier S-Line styling package exclusively for the Q3 Sportback, which adds aggressive front and rear bumpers, new five-twin-spoke design for the 18-inch alloys and hexagonal mesh pattern for the grille. All of it complements the already sporty look of the Sportback. The execution of the sloping roofline is not quite as graceful as larger coupe SUVs but it will still draw attention.
The front half of the cabin is identical to the Q3 SUV and that means a modern design, great quality and some interesting touches. In contrast to the exterior, the cabin lacks a bit of wow factor, but it is typically understated Audi. It gets features like dual-zone climate control, sunroof, wireless phone charger and 10-speaker audio system. Headroom in the back seat isn’t as much as a regular SUV, but the seats themselves are comfortable.
The Sportback gets the familiar 190hp, 2.0-litre engine that packs a punch, helped by the smooth and quick 7-speed dual-clutch auto. The engine is smooth and refined, and if driven sedately, can deliver good efficiency too. The handling is not pin-sharp, but safe and predictable. The ride is more comfort oriented than outright sporty.
The Q3 Sportback does not get the best back seat, thanks to the sloping roofline that compromises the headroom. However, on all other counts the Q3 Sportback is a very desirable luxury SUV. It looks good, drives well and is well equipped and well built. Plus, there’s the novelty value as there is nothing quite like it in the entry-level luxury SUV segment.
